Color Aromatics

Color Aromatics

Today is the last day of Lucile’s Photo101Rehab clinic unless she decides to keep it open. For this photo I used a spare shot from the Photo101 Light assignment and applied a polarize filter to heat up the warm golden and deep blue colors.

And since I have a new fondness for black & white photography, I had to try it out with a mono filter. It seems more dramatic.

2014 in review

I cannot believe that this year is winding down so fast. I just started blogging a few months ago and it has been more fun than I could have imagined. The blogging101, writing101 and photo101 courses were great. I learned a lot and more importantly met a lot of very interesting people.

I haven’t had the opportunity to travel the world, so it is amazing to me that I can interact with people from so many places and get a glimpse of the larger world, which actually makes the world seem smaller in a way!

I have enjoyed practicing different forms of writing. And, I have been surprised at how much I like taking photos! My interest continues to grow as I view great photos and tips from everyone! Taking pictures has become a source of joy!

Thanks to everyone who has given me a great compliment by following my blog, looking my posts and/or taking the time to leave a comment for me! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

The stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 2,900 times in 2014. If it were a cable car, it would take about 48 trips to carry that many people.

Olive and Amber (Photo Challenges)

Olive and Amber Beads

Olive and Amber Beads

I love the beading combination of drab olive and warm amber in this necklace. Each color compliments the other, making the olive seem more vibrant and the amber appear to glow! Of course the right lighting and camera+ miniaturize filter helps too!

This photo is in response to the One Word Photo Challenge (olive), the Daily Post Weekly Photo Prompt (warmth) and Photo101Rehab. Three birds with one stone!

Simple Santa

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

This is one of my favorite Santas because of his simplicity. He is dressed in all white which makes me think of Winter Wonderland. Arms stretched out, he sits on my mantle near vases which glisten with light from my Christmas tree.

Today is Day 5 of the Black and White Photo challenge given to me by Desleyjane and it is also Christmas Eve. So, Santa seems a fitting subject.

As usual, I used my iphone 5s and camera+ app to change the photo to black and white. I think it adds a nostalgic feel to the picture. Today, I extend an invitation to anyone who wants to give black and white photography a try. To join the challenge, post a B&W photo for 5 days and invite someone else each day. Also, there is still time to check out Lucile’s Photo101Rehab for inspiration.

Merry Christmas!

Portrait of My Momma

My Momma

My Momma

Momma is going on 81 years old. She said it was okay to give away her age.

People tell her she has the most beautiful skin and I agree. She hardly has any lines on her face to declare her age.

My mother is beautiful through and through. I love the slight grin she shares as she poses for this picture. She doesn’t need make-up for her natural beauty to shine.

We remind her that she is a miracle woman. About 5 years ago, a doctor told us it would be a miracle for her to make it out of the hospital. Despite the critical illness, my momma did indeed make it back home to us. She lives with me and I thank God for allowing me the ability to help care for her.

Daily life for her is not without hardship, but she never gives up. She carries on despite the physical pains and struggles. She walks with great effort, using a rolling walker with assistance. Still, she walks. Each step is a testament to her drive and determination.

She says she most enjoys time spent with me and my brother. We talk about the days when she was growing up. We talk about the days spent together as a family. We talk about reality TV, current events and God. Through the laughter and tears we all remain a team. We love each other and say it every day.

(For Lucile’s Photo101Rehab information, this photo was taken with the iphone 5s, desaturated to black and white and a backlit scene applied through camera+. This is my 4th post for the Black and White Photo Challenge presented to me by Desleyjane. I am to post a B&W photo for 5 days and invite someone each day. Since I have seen her post great photos for all kinds of challenges, I invite Debbie at Deb’s World to consider joining us. I know it is a busy time of year. So, if the timing isn’t right or you have already been invited, I certainly understand.)

Still Standing

Still Standing

Still Standing

Shared photo credit with my brother who spotted this old building and thought it would make a great photograph. Together, we edited the photo taken with an iPhone 5s. Using the camera+ app we desaturated the photo to black and white with slight adjustments for brightness and contrast.

During the process, we were talking about how this barn was once brand new with proud owners anticipating its use. Still standing, even though usefulness has waned, the building gives us a glimpse of past promise and dreams.

I continue to take part in Lucile’s Photo101Rehab. And, as part of the black and white photo challenge given to me by desleyjane, I am to post a B&W photo every day for 5 days and also invite someone else each day. Since she posted an interesting picture to complete photo101 and was looking for another photo challenge, I invite The Armchair Sommelier to consider joining us.

I know this is a busy time of year. So if the timing isn’t right or you have already been invited, I certainly understand.

This Way

This Way

This Way

Seek signs. Navigate. Lead the way.

This photo was taken with my iphone 5s and changed to all black and white with the mono filter to meet the black and white photo challenge I was given by Delseyjane. There was only one tiny pop of color to hide. I will also use this photo for Lucile’s Photo101Rehab.

I must post a B&W photo every day for 5 days and invite someone else each day. Because I see that she takes a lot of good photos, I invite PricelessJoy of Inspiring My Emotions to consider joining us in the challenge.

I know this is a busy time of year. So if the timing isn’t right or you have already been invited, I certainly understand.

This is a photo taken with my iphone 5s and changed to black and white with a tonal filter on camera+. I am pleased that you can still see the light streams shining through the trees.

I have been given the black and white photo challenge by desleyjane at musings of a frequent flying scientist. She has posted some really great black/white photos and I will try to do the same. The bar is high. I will also use this photo for the photo101Rehab started by Lucile De Godoy.

The challenge is to post a black and white photo every day for 5 days and nominate someone else each day. Since I have seen him post great colorful photos, I will nominate D’Way Crafts to consider joining us in taking some black and white photos too.

I know this is a busy time of year. So if the timing isn’t right or you have already been nominated, I certainly understand.
