Numbers Game
Walking around the park, it made me smile to see this game of hopscotch drawn on the park walkway. When I was a kid, we searched to find “chalk rocks” in our yard to draw squares on the sidewalk in front of the house! Searching and drawing was as much fun as tossing and hopping!

This brought back memories π We would hunt for broken red brick pieces to help draw those lines π

We had two different designs for our hopscotch chalkings…… the first was 1, then 2 and 3 across it, 4 in line with 1, 5 and 6 in line with 2 and 3, 7 in line with 1 and 4, 8 and 9 as 2 and 3, 5 and 5, and 10 right at the top. The second was 1 2 and 3 in a line of boxes, 4 and 5 across, 6 on its own, 7 and 8 across and 9 at the top (no 10). Oh, those were the days.

Those patterns seem very familiar! π

Were you at school in France? (ref: detail of number 7)

No, here in Virginia, USA. I make my own sevens without the line. I saw this recently and it made me think about simple fun times. Wonder about the kids that drew it?

Drawn on our front sidewalk, it used to be fun to look out the window to watch someone (a grown-up!) walk by and hop on the board! Such a great memory, Terri! Thanks so much.

It’s somewhat irresistible! Especially if you think no one is watching!

Thank you for the roadtrip to memory lane; such a great time we used to have playing hopscotch.
