In and Out of Focus

Standing Focus

Focusing on the vibrant colors of this Eastern Bluebird was easy while it stood among the leaves on the ground. Once it took flight, however, all focus was lost. Although it is lacking in clarity, I still like the way the essence of movement is captured in the next photo of this lovely little bird!

Fresh Order

Order on Display

It sure looks appealing, doesn’t it? This display of produce at my local Food Lion grocery store drew me right in! The bright, fresh produce separated into individual baskets made for an inviting display. It made my eyes happy and my mouth water.

I love Mexican food, including guacamole! On the day I took this picture, there was a worker mixing these ingredients into spicy, fresh quacamole right before my eyes. And, she was giving away samples!

As you can see below, the recipe and shopping list were posted on the side of the display!

Recipe Order

Of course, I had to try the recipe out for myself. While I can’t guarantee that you will like it, I sure did!

My Pal

Portrait of Pal

(4 pictures.) Pal has been my friend for nearly nine years. We first bonded as I held him close on the car ride home. My brother and I got Pal from a breeder, but we say we rescued him from less than perfect conditions. With his blue eye, he would never have been a show dog, but we didn’t care. Turns out, Pal has had to take medicine for seizures since he was a pup. He is a trooper and just carries on his merry way. He is a sweet boy, and he loves to play, eat, and sit on your lap!

Pal is a curious basset hound and follows his nose. We have to watch to make sure that he could never accidentally wander away on a mission to follow a scent or chase a butterfly!

Pal On The Move

Pal is smart and knows a lot of commands when he is paying attention. It’s certainly easy to get his attention with food!

Sit and Shake Pal

Pal loves to be near his people. When he gazes at you with his pretty eyes, or rests his slobbery chin on your lap, you know you are loved!

Pal is a Good Boy

Pal is a good friend and part of the family!

Suburb-The Changing Seasons V2 (May 2017)

Tree Swallow in the Sun

Calm Haiku (Stoop)

Resting on the stoop
Sharing the heat of the day
Calms my anxious heart

***
This beautiful tree swallow found a place to rest in between its swooping air flights. I love to watch these birds fly above the field in the park. I also love the rare chance to see one at rest and admire its vivid coloring. This is one of my brother’s favorite birds. Since his birthday is in May, this picture seems a perfect selection for my May Changing Seasons post.

This is my fifth 2017 post for year three of Cardinal Guzman’s photo challenge, The Changing Seasons. You can post a photo gallery (V1) or a single photo (V2) that showcases your view of the month. You can check out the Cardinal’s page for the general challenge rules and join right in! His photos are fantastic! Like last year, I am planning to add a haiku along with my single V2 photo each month. Even though it has been said that a picture paints a thousand words, I like pairing pictures and words; both can still mean different things to different people.

All my previous Changing Seasons posts are in one place under the Changing Seasons header at the top of the page. And, I also have a bird header where all my bird pictures are gathered.
Take a look around my blog if you are interested! Comments are welcome!

Now Exposed

Red Bellied Woodpecker

This red bellied woodpecker has figured out how to use my bird feeder even though it is actually designed for smaller birds. In this photo, a faint red patch on its belly, which is usually concealed by surrounding feathers, is now exposed. This is a male bird, as you can see by its red forehead, nape and crown. I never grow tired of gazing at the striking colors of the amazing creature!

Cardinal Brings a Smile (The Weekly Smile 70)

Cardinal

I happened upon a challenge called The Weekly Smile which runs Wednesday to Wednesday! So, I decided to join in. We can all use a reason to smile! The sight of this vibrant male Cardinal makes me smile. The sound of its song makes me smile too. The weather here has been perfect for sitting on my back porch and watching my backyard birds which, of course, makes me smile! Clearly, I am a fan of simple pleasures!

I hope you are having a great day!

Half Day Moon (CFFC-Sky)

Half Day Moon

Yesterday, I noticed that the theme of Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge for the week was sky. Looking up, I found it to be a pleasant surprise to see the moon in the blue sky of day.

At times, the half moon had to peek through the soft clouds floating across the sky.

Day Moon Peeking

I always look for images in the clouds. This cloud formation struck me as a Phoenix rising in the sky.

What do you see?

Monogrammed to a T (CYW-Black)

Monogram

Today, the last day of April, is the last day of JNW’s Color Your World Photo Challenge with the color target of black. I like the black and white contrast of this stationary. And since the last day of April also happens to be my birthday, and therefore all about me 😉, a posting with MY monogram seemed fitting! Truly, I have received my share of birthday wishes today from family and friends. On top of that, it is a beautiful sunny day! I am certainly blessed!

Delicate

Delicate Haiku (Peace)

Delicate moment
In striving to keep the peace
Think before you speak

***
This seemingly delicate blossom is sturdier than you might think. Without any concerted effort from me, it sprouted up on its own in my backyard! Years ago, someone planted flowers in my yard. It is amazing how they still grow year after year!

***
Peace is a delicate commodity, easily broken, and needful of our committment.

Scarlet Beauty (CYW-Scarlet)

Scarlet

This puffed-up, rain-soaked, male house finch shows off its scarlet coloring. Beautiful!
