Star

Star Haiku (Promise)

Each beckoning star
Giving a glimpse of heaven
Promise fills the sky

Best wishes to everyone as we head toward 2018!

This is my twelfth 2017 post for year three of Cardinal Guzman’s photo challenge, The Changing Seasons. You can post a photo gallery (V1) or a single photo (V2) that showcases your view of the month. You can check out the Cardinal’s page for the general challenge rules and see his photo gallery. His photos are fantastic! Like last year, I have added a haiku along with my single V2 photo each month. Even though it has been said that a picture paints a thousand words, I like pairing pictures and words; both can still mean different things to different people.

Thank you to the Cardinal for hosting the challenge all these years. It’s been fun! And, thanks to Su Leslie for keeping the challenge going.

Also, these trees in midst of changing colors and changing seasons seem a good match for the daily post weekly photo challenge: transformation

Changing Beauty

Beauty Haiku (Inevitable)

Inevitably
Our impression of beauty
Will change over time

***
The leaves are changing color here. Overall, the colors don’t seem as vibrant this year. People say that is because we have had drier weather. Still, I was struck by the beauty of this fallen leaf, bursting with bright color against the pavement, as I walked through the park on this chilly day. I can hardly believe that October is nearly over. Where has the time gone?

Double Vision

Vision Haiku (Double)

Wonderous vision
Immensely unexpected
Intoxicating

***
I was certainly surprised to look out my kitchen window and see two deer gazing back at me! I live in a suburban neighborhood and wouldn’t expect to see deer so near to my house. I studied their beauty for a moment then ran to get my camera. They didn’t move from their spots, and looked right at me through the window. I didn’t want to scare them so I stepped away, peeking at them as they moved across my yard. Deer are such beautiful creatures and I felt double blessed to see two!

Suburb-The Changing Seasons V2 (August 2017)

Treasure

Treasure Haiku (Circumstance)

Treasure may differ
Depending on circumstance
And place in this world

***
I like to put extra bird food on the ground for my favorite back yard squirrel, Curtiss. Yes, she is my favorite- I can always recognize her by the notch on her right ear! I have been watching her across the seasons. I have watched her build a nest in my dogwood tree for her babies, and I have watched her move those babies when danger (in the form of a hawk) had been near. I have watched her watch me, eye to eye, as she lounges on the tree branches. I have watched her diligently gather acorns in preparation for the winter. Other squirrels, with their own personality traits, partake in this food treasure too. But, only when Curtiss lets them. She is the queen!

Today, with so much distress in the world, I am counting my blessings and feeling greatful indeed.

July Lily

Heat Haiku (Composure)

Rise up and stand tall
Against the sweltering heat
Keep cool composure

***
This has been a hot, hot, hot July! It’s hot enough to make tempers flare! So stay cool my friends!!!

***
This flower (tall and proud) popped up overnight despite the heat. I think it is some type of lily. Do you know what kind of flower it is?

Busy Haiku (Bee)

Day in and day out
A worker bee stays busy

I wonder what kind of June flower has drawn the attention of this busy bee…anybody know?

Suburb-The Changing Seasons V2 (May 2017)

Tree Swallow in the Sun

Calm Haiku (Stoop)

Resting on the stoop
Sharing the heat of the day
Calms my anxious heart

***
This beautiful tree swallow found a place to rest in between its swooping air flights. I love to watch these birds fly above the field in the park. I also love the rare chance to see one at rest and admire its vivid coloring. This is one of my brother’s favorite birds. Since his birthday is in May, this picture seems a perfect selection for my May Changing Seasons post.

Suburb-The Changing Seasons V2 (April 2017)

Delicate

Delicate Haiku (Peace)

Delicate moment
In striving to keep the peace
Think before you speak

***
This seemingly delicate blossom is sturdier than you might think. Without any concerted effort from me, it sprouted up on its own in my backyard! Years ago, someone planted flowers in my yard. It is amazing how they still grow year after year!

***
Peace is a delicate commodity, easily broken, and needful of our committment.
